Maths Master? Here’s a Mind Boggling Proof!

What’s 1 + 1? What’s 2 + 2? You’ll probably are angry on me right now for asking you such silly questions but in a class, when teacher asked the boy about 2+2, he answered 2! I got amazed but then I and my friend got involved to get it proved. And now we have it here. Just take a look of the following proof which proves 2 + 2 = 2.

Now we’ll have two variables x and y.

x = y = 2

x2 = y2

Subtracting y2 from both sides. That gives,

x2y2 = y2y2

Now, we know that x2y2 = (x+y) (x-y)

(x + y) (xy) = y (yy)

Now, x = y. Therefore,

(x + y) (xy) = y
(xy)

(x + y) = y

Substituting all values for x = y = 2

2 + 2 = 2

Isn’t that great. Try it out. It is mathematically correct! If you have more of this, you can get it on our blog by mailing it to davetheroyale@live.in.

    In the second last step(that which has been highlighted red) has been divided by (x-y)=0. Means you have multiplied by infinity which you cannot to solve an equation.
